Jean Estene is a director and creative director known for crafting visually controlled worlds where immaculate surfaces conceal emotional unrest. Her work explores what lies beneath the polished exterior — the tension between beauty and volatility, restraint and fracture — expressed through bold framing, tactile texture, and atmospheric precision.
Rooted in an analog sensibility and timeless composition, Jean builds imagery that feels cinematic yet editorial, intimate yet mythic. She favors atmosphere over exposition and presence over spectacle, constructing narratives that resonate through mood, performance, and subconscious tension rather than linear explanation.
Working fluidly between narrative film, fashion, and 360° brand campaigns, Jean approaches each project as a cohesive visual system. From concept through execution, she ensures that film, stills, sound, and multi-platform assets operate in quiet dialogue — unified by a singular visual language. Whether directing original films or leading large-scale branded work, she builds complete worlds that extend beyond a single frame.
Originally from Los Angeles, Jean studied experimental filmmaking at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. During her time at NYU, she lived in France, deepening her engagement with cross-disciplinary art forms including photography, sculpture, theatre, and dance — influences that continue to inform her hybrid approach to fashion and cinema.
She is based in Los Angeles, developing original films alongside select branded collaborations.
